Welcome to The Leatherheads
Footy Tales and Tunes is the upshot of what happened when three blokes from totally different walks of life put their creative minds together, and endeavored to make an album that all like minded
The Leather heads are:
Doug Hawkins: An AFL legend having played 329 games with Footscray and 21 with Fitzroy.
Russell Gilbert: A comedian and media performer who frequently appears on TV and Radio.
Harry Jon Nanos: A multi award winning singer-songwriter and record producer
The common denominator in this unusual union is that all three of us have an insatiable passion for the great Australian game of Aussie Rules Football. The tales and tunes that appear on this CD are a collection of our own experiences and fantasies, some as true as a Brendan Fevola shot at goal, some delivered with tongue firmly planted in cheek.
Our great game has changed significantly over the years, so we have tried to re-visit some of the memories of the seventies and eighties in our presentation as well as acknowledging the modern and more contemporary characteristics of today’s exciting national game.
We hope that some of the tracks on this CD will put a smile on your dial, and that others may provide you with the perfect soundscape when in need of motivation or inspiration. As for the rest, well, we think they might work just fine at your next barbie, footy function, or family get together when everybody is in a happy place and ready for a good old sing-along.
